Yet, though I cannot see thee more
‘Tis still a comfort to have seen,
And though thy transient life is o’er
‘Tis sweet to think that thou hast been

–Anne Brontë, from “A Reminiscence”

Reminiscing (2010) is a work, succinctly put, telling the story of a good memory gone horribly wrong. Opening with a lyrical melody in the violin, the work takes a journey from the peaceful and contemplative, through tense and plaintive, to outright anguish. Climaxing with a violent explosion of grief, the work quickly denouements to a restatement of the opening theme, which has somehow developed a completely different connotation after this work’s temporal journey.
