Hypnosis (2005) is my personal tribute to the genre of Romantic Lieder. Though the work is heavily modeled after the harmonic practices of composers like Wulf, Brahms, and Schumann, there are still the occasional modern gestures to bring the Lieder into the 21st century. The relentless Schubert-esque accompaniment mixed with heavy rubato lends a trance-like air of music boxes and sea waves to the work, inspiring the title.
